Eating fat free products was underpinned by the theory that calories in versus calories out, was the only variable to effective weight loss.

 

Skip ahead a few years and we realize this theory is greatly flawed.

 

Most of those products contain considerably more refined carbohydrates, sodium and sugar, which results in an insulin surge upon eating.  This insulin surge often creates the need for more food to satisfy the blood sugar roller coaster.  Eating a portion of the higher fat food will generally satisfy hunger for a longer period of time decreasing the need to consume more to feel satisfied.  It is important to focus on eating the right type of fats instead of cutting out all fats.  This will help with hormonal balance of insulin and long term weight loss.
