Vogue UK – As the heritage British footwear company launches women’s ready-to-wear, we speak to artistic director Paula Gerbase about designing the perfect pair of shoes.

hen Paula Gerbase was appointed artistic director of heritage footwear brand John Lobb in 2014, one of the first things that she did was scour its 150-year archives. She quickly discovered that, while womenswear has never formally been a part of the brand’s offering, the bespoke service that they offer means that plenty of women have ordered shoes over the years. “I thought I was just taking over a men’s brand, but so much of the archive is women’s,” she says. “I found women’s ice skates from the Twenties, even heels!”…
