Downton Goes Wide Screen

For any fans of the TV series…. ( if not, as so many police have said to so many rubbernecking people for so long “Just pass by please, nothing for you here.)

“Downton Abbey” fans, let the countdown begin: The movie based on the hit PBS series will open in theaters nationwide on September 20, 2019.

Production is underway in London with the original cast members, including Hugh Bonneville as the patriarch of the aristocratic Crawley family, Jim Carter as the no-nonsense butler Mr. Carson, and Dame Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess, known for her razor-sharp wit and bon mots like “What is a weekend?”

The screenplay is by series creator Julian Fellowes.  Last month, director Michael Engler took over for Brian Percival, who helmed seven episodes of “Downton Abbey.”  Engler’s credits include the new movie “The Chaperone” and TV shows like “30 Rock,” “The Big C” and “Sex and the City.”

“Downton Abbey” aired on PBS’ “Masterpiece Theatre” from 2011 to 2016, earning 15 Emmy Awards and 69 nominations, a record for a series produced outside the United States.
