Politico – Potential Democratic presidential contenders went into the midterm elections with questions about how to approach the 2020 primary season. They didn’t get any conclusive answers Tuesday night.

If there was any clarity in the election returns, it concerned a group of voters who will be pivotal in 2020 when Donald Trump gears up for reelection: suburbanites. Trump managed to win the suburbs narrowly in 2016, but Tuesday’s results — marked by the ouster or near-defeat of scores of suburban Republicans — suggested the president’s polarizing style and policies have rubbed suburbia raw, providing an opening for a Democrat with the right message.
